Brgy. 655

Barangay 655 is a community located in Intramuros, Manila. It has a total land area of 2,000 sq.m. It is bounded in the south by Real Street, east by Solana Street., north by Andres Soriano Street, and west by A. Bonifacio Street. The community has an estimated population of 2,759, about 400 households.

General Profile
The biggest number of respondents belong to age bracket 26-30 and 36-40, each with 10 respondents or 20% of the total respondents. 8 respondents or 16% of the total respondents belong to age bracket 31-35, 7 respondents or 14% of total respondents belong to age bracket 46-50 years of age, 5 respondents or 10% of the total number of respondents belong to age bracket 41-54 and 21-25, 4 respondents or 8% of total respondents belong to age bracket 51-55, 3 respondents or 6% of the total respondents and 2 respondents or 4% of the total respondents belong to age bracket 56-60.

37 respondents or 74% of the total respondents are male and 13 respondents or 26% of the total respondents are female. Married respondents account to 49 respondents or 98% of the total respondents. Only 1 respondent sector or 2% of the total respondents who is not married.

About 17 respondents or 34% of the total respondents did not finish high school 14 respondents or 28 % of the total respondents did not finish elementary. 9 respondents or 18% of total respondents finished high school and only 2 respondents or 4% of the total respondents finished elementary. Only 3 respondents or 6% of the total respondents reached college and 2 respondents or 4% of the total respondents graduated from college.

Economic Profile
32 respondents or 64% of the total population are employed but mostly on contractual/casual status. About 13 respondents or 26% of the total respondents are self-employed and 7 respondents or 14% of the total respondents are unemployed. Most of the respondents’ monthly income falls under the income bracket 1000-below and 1001-2000 monthly income which accounted 20 respondents or 40% of total respondents. In general, the respondents’ monthly income fall under income bracket 6000-below which account to 39 respondents or 78% of the total respondents. Comparing with the monthly expenditures, most of the respondents’ expenses fall under expenditure bracket 7000-below which account 45 respondents or 90% of the total respondents.

The average number of household members is 4 with. Almost 50% are below the age bracket of 3. Few household members are studying and working.

Most of the respondents have television set which account to 43 respondents or 86% of the total respondents. Only 17 respondents or 34% of the total respondents account with radio and 15 respondents or 30% of the total respondents account with VHS/VCD/DVD player.

More than 50% of the respondents are not resident-owners. Most of the respondents are renting which account 16 or 32% of the total respondents. A number of respondents are squatting which account to 13 or 26% of the total respondents. Only 11 respondents or 22% of the total respondents are resident owners and 10 respondents or 20% of the total respondents live with relatives.

Spiritual Profile
48 respondents or 96% of the total respondents are Catholic and the remaining 2 or 4% of the total respondents are Non-Catholic.

About 31 respondents or 62% of the total respondents attend Church activities once a week., 11 respondents or 22% of the total respondents attend Church activities once a month.

About 40 respondents or 80% of the total respondents are not members of any Church organizations. Only 10 respondents or 20% of the total respondents have membership in Church organizations.

Health Profile
Cough, fever, colds and flu are the most common sickness in the household. Medical consultation of 21 respondents or 42% of the total respondents are done monthly and about 20 respondents or 40% of the total respondent attend to medical consultation occasionally. About 42 respondents or 84% of the total respondents go to community health worker and 30 respondents or 60% of the total respondents go to community health center/barangay health center for consultation. About 33 respondents or 30% of the total respondents take commercial drugs for medication and only 20 respondents or 22% of the total respondents take herbal medicines.

Most of the respondents go for rice, vegetables and fish. But it is to be noted also that canned goods and noodles are also the usual food bought by the respondents.

Most of the respondents’ water source, 48 respondents or 96% of the total respondents, is NAWASA.

Socio-cultural Profile
Watching movies is preferred by 29 respondents or 58% of the total respondents as to their recreational activity. Only 14 respondents or 28% of the total respondents like sports and 4 respondents who make up the 8% of the total respondents are engaged in gambling.

As to membership in civic organizations, about 41 respondents or 82% of the total respondents are not members of any organization and only 9 respondents or 18% of the total respondents are members of a civic organization.
